How we calculate


Calculating climate impact is a multi-stage process:

  • First, we calculate the emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that result from the activity in question
  • Then, we combine these emissions together to produce a single value for climate impact expressed in terms of a "carbon dioxide equivalent".

The underlying data for these calculations, as well as the science involved, is evolving continuously. You can read about how we keep our models updated here.
