Momentum i sgrowing to tackle climate change. Countries representing 90% of the world’s economy have committed to a mix of policy instruments to tackle climate change during this decade. From 2013, carbon pricing schemes are expected to be operating in at least 33 countries and 18 sub-national jurisdictions.

These schemes are expected to cover:
– around 850 million people
– around 30 per cent of the global economy, and
– around 20 per cent of global emissions.

The sooner action is taken, the cheaper the overall bill to our economies will be. Assuming a 2 degree target we would need to reduce emissions year-on-year by over 2 %. The report contains an interesting annex detailing the climate change policies of all major economies.
